About Tomoko

I have been playing and teaching the harp over 20 years in Orange/Los Angeles. I love to see my students' grow artistically and personally through music. I am a graduate of Manhattan school of Music in New York and USC where I received my DMA. I teach Harp in all levels, and beginning and intermediate piano, theory and ear training, and Japanese language as well. As an active member of MTAC and American Harp Society I have been an adjudicator for panels and competitions. I was selected as the Best Business of Irvine in the category of Musician in 2017, three consecutive years in a rows. For more information, please go to (concealed information)

I love music, especially performing in the area of Classical, Popular and Jazz. Music can give you the out of the world experience when you can connect within yourself and audience. Everyone has a potential and I can share you know-hows. I'm good at customizing arrangements, such as simplifying music for beginners or jazzing-up popular music.

I have DMA from University of Southern California, MM from Manhattan school of Music, and Piano and Harp Performance Degrees from Chapman University. I was a Teaching assistant at USC where I taught a Harp class to beginning students. I have also taught piano at a music school for 4 years while maintaining a private music studio. Having my own studio has taught me to be not only a good teacher but also a better communicator as well.

About the lesson

I customize materials for each student, however, generally technique and two contrasting pieces are assigned to work on. I expect students to engage in daily practice and set goals. I incorporate visualization technique to help relax the body and mind. Students are encouraged to participate in recitals and attend music events.

I have taught from 5 year old to 70 year old. From small children with no musical back ground to music major candidate, and adults who want to enjoy music. I have also taught special needs.

First, you want to make sure it's the right fit- personality and teaching style. I believe that communication is the key to better understand the needs of the students. Please specify what you are looking for in the beginning and throughout the process.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You want to know the purpose or goal for taking the lesson, whether it's for enjoyment or serious study. Knowing what you want to achieve and setting short-term and long-term goals is important in deciding repertoire and curriculum.
