About Ben
I have a master's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a wide range of professional experience working with classical and musical theater singers, as well as with choirs, in churches, etc. I enjoy teaching all ages and levels of pianists and singers.
I enjoy working with students to help them get where they want to go through figuring out how they learn best and guiding them on a path which blends clear know-how about how to sing/play better and an enthusiasm for the joys of making good music.
I started teaching fellow students and younger local children while a college undergrad.
I have a master's degree from CIM in piano and have studied voice extensively. I have also taken several piano pedagogy courses.

I tend to get a sense of where a student is at in terms of skills and knowledge and what (s)he'd like to get out of lessons. Then, we'll review some basic sound principles and work on some new, exciting music as we build technique and musicianship skills.
I've worked with students of all ages and prior experience.
Look for a teacher you think is a good listener, is enthusiastic, and someone you feel you can connect with well to get where you'd like to go.
An adult voice student had some technical breakthroughs with my help, which is helping her sing a song she loves to sing much more comfortably.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what they're interested in getting out of lessons, how much time they can devote to practicing, and, in the case of older students, how they learn best.

I studied piano with Ben for two years. As an adult student, I had limited time to practice, but Ben was very patient and encouraging. With the help of his expertise, I was able to learn how to play several songs I had struggled to figure out on my own. Ben has a wonderful, positive attitude as a teacher and I really enjoyed working with him.
