About Hannah
As a graduate of Berklee College of Music, a performer, songwriter, and composer, I draw from my education and real world experience to give my students high quality lessons. From helping students find the inspiration to write a song, to overcoming vocal technique issues, to learning to read and write music, I use my experience to help my students discover their voice, and nurture their musical talents. I take great joy in watching my students progress from week to week. It's wonderful to see how far a person can go when they set their mind to it. The look on a student's face when they have accomplished their goal is one of the most gratifying parts of my job.
I began teaching shortly after graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2010. It began with just local referrals, helping out high school kids with choir auditions etc. When I moved to LA, a friend of mine referred me to a school called Hollywood Academy of Music where I gained some really great hands on experience teaching all kinds of students. I worked with everyone from 4 year old piano students, to adults working on their singing for auditions, to young artists wanting to hone their songwriting craft.
I have taken many private voice and piano lessons over the years (beginning at age 9) mainly focusing on pop styles, and attended Berklee College of Music where I focused on songwriting and composition. I graduated in 2009 with my Bachelor of Music. I also currently compose for production music library, Megatrax.

When working with a new student, I usually spend a bit of time discussing their experience and goals at the beginning of our lesson. This is important information and it helps me decide how to approach our lessons so the student can get the most out of our time together.
For vocal students, the next step is usually some vocal exercises so I can get a feel for what their voice sounds like and what their range is. From there, depending on their needs, we may work on technique exercises or choose a song.
For piano students it can vary, depending on their age, skill level, and goals. We may work on reading, we may work on accompaniment techniques, rhythm exercises, ear training, music theory. There are so many options!
For Songwriting, we may begin by looking at some of the student's work and discussing ways to improve or we may analyze some songs they like, we might talk about chord progressions and form. Again, all of this really changes based on each individual and their needs.
I have been fortunate to work with many different kinds of students! I have worked with ages 4-adult. I have worked with students who were just beginning lessons for the first time, some experienced musicians wanting to prepare for a performance or event, some students wanting to explore artistry and learn to write music. It's been a wild ride and it's been so much fun to work with so many different wonderful students from so many different backgrounds. It certainly keeps my on my toes and keeps my job interesting and fun!
My advice is to look for a teacher who specializes in exactly what you want to learn and whose teaching philosophies line up with how you'd like to learn.
There have been so many rewarding moments in my teaching career. The last time I had a performance with my students, I was really proud to watch one of my students play and sing a song that was a big challenge. She worked so hard and spent so many hours learning the piano part and when she performed the song, she just sounded so lovely. I was just filled with pride!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should look into cost, distance (are they going to be able to get to the lesson easily enough to make it a regular thing), and most importantly, they should simply think about what their goals are in taking lessons.
