About Jason

Hey everyone! My name is Jason Garcia and I'm a passionate musician and language learner. Oh and I'm pretty good at math. I'm an International Baccalaureate graduate and pursuing a degree in physics.

I speak Spanish fluently. I have studied the language for 5 years including time spent as a missionary in Perú. During my time in Perú I taught English classes among other things. Due to this I understand the demands and required methods of teaching a language.

I also play a variety of musical instruments including the piano, guitar, and ukulele, in addition to singing. I'm a classical pianist with 11 years of experience. I have an advanced knowledge of music theory and have written multiple papers in the field.

I chose to pursue a degree in physics because of my strong background and love for math. I took advanced math courses during high school and have studied various math topics extensively on my own.

I love learning and I hope that my teaching and dynamic personality will help you to discover that some love!

See you soon!

Jason Garcia

I first served as a tutor while in high school. Through my International Baccalaureate program I had the opportunity to work with other students at my school and tutor them in math.

Over the years, I have taught a number of piano students of different ages and skill levels.

I began teaching languages while serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Piura Perú. I taught organized English classes weekly as well as teaching informally to the other missionaries.

I'm an International Baccalaureate Diploma recipient with subject certificates in math, music, and Spanish.

I have studied Spanish for 5 years and lived abroad in a Spanish speaking country. I speak, read, and write the language fluently.

I have been classically trained as a pianist, selected for All-State and All-County choirs all throughout high school, and have studied and written papers on music and music theory.

As a math student in the International Baccalaureate I tutored other students under the supervision of math teachers from the program. I also conducted an independent math exploration in the field of statistics.

When working with a new student, I will establish their level of proficiency, determine goals, a workable schedule, and begin to teach the required subject material for the student's progression.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before talking to a teacher about their needs, a student should think about their goals, commitment, and prior understanding.

Goals are often correlated with commitment. If someone has a goal to reach a certain level of proficiency in a language, instrument, or other subject, this goal can serve to help foster diligent and focused study or practice habits.

Commitment determines the relative speed and amount of progress that a student will make. Learning something to a specific level may require more commitment than another, lower level. The amount of time you are willing to commit will often determine the material taught by the teacher.

Evaluating what you already know and communicating this will help your teacher to be able to focus more time and attention on areas that need the most improvement. Being prepared with an idea of what you already know and can do will facilitate the construction of an efficient and focused plan with your teacher.
