About Junietta

Hello, I am a retired certified elementary school teacher with years of teaching both school, piano and organ lessons. I am certified in Spalding Reading. I have taught remedial reading and also have years of teaching in the regular classroom. In the past I taught Native Amerian Cultures at the local community college. On the side, I have taught piano lessons for 40 years and also have done private tutoring in my home. I have also had thirty plus years of basic office accounting experience as an office manager.

I enjoy helping my students progress to the point of success and accomplishment. When I see them begin to love learning then I know they will keep on learning on their own. Each student is unique and learns differently, so it is a challenge to me to discover the best way to help them learn. I had a wonderful student who did had not had the opportunity to take organ and piano lessons. He was amazing and went from a beginning student of music to playing the "Hallelujah Chorus" on the organ in four years! But, he practiced hard. I also had two ADHD students who learned the multiplication tables while dancing up and down. I have written two children's books and also have been published in the Journal of Arizona History. In the past I was also the president of the local historical society.

I am a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's degree in Education and a minor in archaeology. In addition I have 42 credit hours toward a master's degree in Native American Studies / Anthropology. I taught elementary school and remedial reading for 15 years. I am a certified Spalding Reading instructor. I have taught piano lessons for 50 years.

About the lesson

I first get acquainted with my new student. What do they like to do? What interests them? What is their background in the the subject or subjects we will be working with? Why do they need to learn more? What are their goals for the future?

After this, I usually do informal assessments to determine our beginning points of work. Then from there we go on to work on the needs that are currently important.
