About Mikenna
I'm very passionate about music. I don't think there's a right or wrong way to learn music. I've worked with plenty of different ages and personalities to know how to best help my students accomplish their goals.
Music isn't just learning things on a certain instrument and playing fancy songs. By teaching others music, I'm also teaching them dedication, learning technics, independence, and so many other skills that can help them in all aspects of life. Music also can teach them appreciation for art, culture, and history.
That's why I love teaching music.
I have such a passion for music. I believe anyone can be a musician regardless of their age or learning capabilities. Music appreciation as well as the skills you develop while learning music can be applied to every day life and I have such a desire to share those skills with everyone.
I earned my Bachelors of Science in Music Composition and Production Technology with an emphasis in piano.
I have been teaching piano/music for over 8 years both independently and for Bountiful Music Academy.
I have been studying/performing music for over 20 years.

I love getting a feel for their personalities and what makes them driven. I find that everyone connects with music in very different ways and finding that something is the key to getting others as passionate about music as I am.
I have worked with students of all ages from ages 5 to 56. I've also worked with students that suffer from emotional/behavioral challenges like anxiety and depression to learning dissabilites.
Find a teacher that communicates the same way you do, or find one that is willing to explain things in different ways so that you understand. I hated learning from instructors that thought it was their way or the high way. You should never leave a lesson feeling frustrated or confused in any way. If you do, they're not the teacher for you and they'll just hold you back.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Find out how you learn things best. It can be repetition, setting time goals for yourself, working with phone apps, etc. Then ask that teacher if they can accommodate you.
You should also think really hard about whether or not you're really interested in learning or developing a skill. It gets super hard sometimes and there might be moments when you get frustrated and discouraged. When those moments come, are you able to stick with it and push forward? If that is something that worries you, your teacher should be able to help motivate you and help you accomplish your goals no matter what.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
She is very patient and kind. She is always professional in her demeanor. She knows so much about music in general it blows my mind. I would refer her to anyone I know.
Mikenna is a great teacher and can teach any age and level. She started with my high schooler and has pushed her to greater levels of ability. We recently had her start teaching our 3 youngest, all in elementary school. My boys were both beginners but each learn differently. She is able to connect and teach in ways that are different but work for each boy. She is fun and super positive. The kids love to have lessons, and even practice without too much begging from me.
She knows how to teach to different ages very well. She can also adapt the lesson based on the students needs. Would highly recommend.
