About Stephanie

I am a classically trained pianist with a B.M. and M.M. in piano performance. I have over 15 years of teaching experience and over 30 years of musical study. I use Dalcrozian principles to teach musical literacy and the Taubman Approach to teach technique. I taylor each student's curriculum to improve their weaknesses and revel in their strenghts.

I love seeing my student's musical abilities progress as they age. Overcoming challenges and finding different communication strategies keeps every student and lesson interesting and rewarding!

From a very young age, I have always wanted to teach piano. I started teaching my first lessons while a college student. The experience I have gained in the intervening years are invaluable to me as a teacher.

I hold a B.M. in piano performance from the University of Denver and an M.M. in piano performance from Webster University. I am committed to continuing education and have taken private lessons and pedagogical training in the Taubman approach as well as enrollment in Dalcroze certification. I also continually enrich myself by going to courses and programs presented by the Denver Area Music Teachers Association

About the lesson

For all prospective students, I offer a free trial lesson and interview. For a student completely new to piano, I perform rhythmic assessments and teach a few rote pieces to guage attention span as well as spatial reasoning and patterns. I also go over my studio policies. For transfer students (students who have studied piano with another teacher), I ask that students come ready to play old pieces. I also do sight reading, ear training and rhythmic assessments as well as go over studio policies.

I mainly teach children ages 5 to 18. I have extensive experience working with adults as all my students at the Community College of Denver were 18 and over.

Ask for a trial lesson, interview multiple teachers, find a teacher open to working with your personality and learning style.

At my spring 2017 recital, 2 of my students, a student's grandparent, and I performed a piece for 8 hands and 2 pianos. The piece was technically, rhythmically, and collaboratively challenging yet we managed to pull it off with 2 rehearsals!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Prior to starting lessons, a student should prime themselves for sucess by purchasing an acoustic instrument they can practice on daily. Learning to play the piano is a long term commitment that yields lifelong benefits. Be ready to make that commitment and patient in achieving results!

Details

Lessons are charged by the hour, half hour, or in 45 minute increments. Tuition is averaged over 32 weeks of the school year which allow for vacations and absences. I also charge a registration fee that covers sheet music and some festival fees and holds the student's space in my schedule.
