Aloha the athletes i've been previllaged to coach over the years calls me COACH ALIKS. Ive coached Football from pop warner, flag, high school football 20 plus yrs J.V and Varsity. Our goals together is too help you eatablish the mentality and work ethic to play at the next level. 20 plus yrs of coaching girls and boys basketball. Int to h.s.
My jouney for martial arts is a lifestyle. Ive been a blackbelt in hapkido under master Dong Jin Kim since 1996. I encorporated wing chun and escrima. Boxing and muay thai. Im a purplebelt in Brazilian jiujitsu and my goal is too get that next stripe. A saying an upper belt told me this week" keep sharpening the blades". My Professor in Bjj said at my last practice as my Master Kim all those years ago now yourjourney begins.
I was called to teach womens self defense. Ill share a story on why i teach womens self defense. one of my varsity football players older sister was bruttaly attacked and raped. She lived in fear for over a year. Her life style changed so drastically she would hide in her home. My player mom appraoched me about her situation and if i could help her daughter a mother of 3, successful business woman. "Find her the strength within her self". I suggested to mom 2xs a week. We had no relationship before. I was jus her brother's coach. We jumped right into it. What magnifide the situation her attacker had post bail. We set ground rules for her and myself but once I gained her trust, walls came down. She stayed consistant gained confidence in self, we set up protocols, safeguards, routines for her life, business, home. 2x a week became 4xs a week. She never missed. At the time I was ACO III at mccc. It was a storming rain day, i got heldback. I couldnt meet up with her. I called and she was bummed but decided that she would go too her gym to do some rounds on the heavy bag. I said ill see you tomorrow. "Yup see you aliks". An hour later our phone in the kitchen at the facility was going off. Outside call for me. I pick up. She said aliks he was at the gym. We both were walking down a narrow hallway towards each other. I didnt practice what you said too do and check my enviroment, i was running in from the rain. He seen me, recognized me, walked too me aggressive. just like how we rehearsed and "he thought I was a Victim". I did like we practiced. "I got in my stance, i took his space, i made him flinch. I covered him down 180. He didnt engage, cowered and walked away. Oh I SO WANTED TOO SMASH HIS FACE WITH MY ELBOW. Proud moment. She is doing good got married to a good friend mine. Our motto, she helped coin."I GOT, BAD INTENTIONS, MAKE EM FEEL THE PAIN or go NAI NAI".
My calling. Its a life style.
