About Jocelyn
I have been training in martial arts for over 12 years. My self defense instruction combines knowledge from Shotokan karate, Brazilian jiujitsu, and practical self defense strategies and techniques. Being a woman, I understand the vulnerability women sometimes feel, and seek to find techniques that don't require brute strength. Ages of clients have spanned from 12- adulthood.
There is something so rewarding about helping another women find her voice and her strength!
I was asked by my head Karate Sensei to teach a womens self defense class at a local library and completely loved it!
Aside from my own ongoing martial arts training, I am a certified martial arts instructor through the World Traditional Karate Organization and hold a personal training certification. I am a school social worker and believe that this profession enables me to approach self defense with empathy and an awareness of the challenges women may experience in assuring for their own safety.

I always assess the comfort level and athleticism of a new client. Everyone brings their own unique set of needs, experiences and fears, strengths and challenges. While we sort these out, I also begin teaching avoidance strategies and simple self defense techniques.
I've worked with girls as young as 12 through adulthood. Some have had negative experiences and wish to feel safer and empowered. Some want to feel safer in their daily routines or as they branch out in life.
