Enabling individuals to follow their dreams is important to me. It's fun to see confidence develop.
Around 2008 I noticed that there was more involved with quilting and less interest in garment construction. I did not want clothing sewing to become a lost art. As I listened to people around me, I would often hear that they wish they knew how to see. Initially I started to have classes in my home But at a later time it proved more flexible to bring the classes to the students in their home. That seems to have worked well and so I continue it.
I was taught by my mother in the 60s and have sewn since that time. I did take some classes through The Art Institute in Las Vegas for a time and found the color theory classes most useful. Many times I simply can reason out what a pattern will need in order to make it become a success.

We normally introduce each other via phone call with a lot of questions and answers back-and-forth. During the phone call it is decided if we want to set up their shopping trip and if they need a machine or not. I will ask for their major cross streets where they live in order to determine where the shopping trip is to be held. I do not ask for their home address until we have already met in person. I do not need their home address until then
I have worked with very young at the age of 6 to as old as 80. There have been numerous male students scattered across the years also. It makes me proud and happy to teach someone the basics of sewing or the more advanced needs. Who knows we might have a fledgling designer among the group?
The individual looking for a teacher needs to expect the teacher to ask about any existing previous experience. Also the teachers should ask if plans are to use an existing sewing machine to find out if it has been serviced recently. If not that may be requested as a well running machine is imperative. As we live in the desert, a machine that has been stored in a garage or a non-climate controlled area, that machine may possibly not be usable. It may need to be replaced because the servicing of a inappropriately stored machine will be prohibitively high and likely not advised.
I love any and all of our shopping trips. They become an exercise in being smart with funds and also the best way to coupon to save the maximum out of money. On a shopping trip this week, a brand new student spent $262 and saved $263. She was very happy and so was I. Students are taught to maximize their coupon use in order for this sort of thing to happen. Not everyone chooses to spend that much money, but we will work with whatever budget the person may have.

Details
Classes are normally $65 for 2 1/2 hours of time. There is additional fee and slightly decreased rates for time that goes over the 2 1/2 hours.
There is a cancellation fee for a class that cancels with less than two hour notice. Circumstances involved may permit me to excuse a cancellation and the fee accordingly.
