About Hayley

Hi!

My name is Hayley. I love sewing, crochet, and macrame! This past year I taught my first sewing student how to sew. Together we sewed 2 skirts and many cloth masks. My student had never used a sewing machine before, but is now completing projects on her own. I taught her the basics of how to work her machine, how to clean the machine, how to sew a straight line, curved lines, how to use the zigzag stitch setting, and also how to make a button hole.

I would love to teach you how to sew or crochet or even macrame!

I'm looking forward to our adventures together!

I love seeing my visions come to life when I create. It is a great feeling to look at something in your home and know that you made it. It is also a lot of fun to make things for other people and see their face light up when they realize you made it specifically for them.

I love helping others create and bring their visions to life as well. I want them to have that same good feeling :)

I have always taught others how to sew and crochet ever since I learned how. I would teach all my friends and have sewing parties, so I have always been naturally inclined towards teaching these skills. Just recently a friend asked me to teach her how to sew and she became my first formal student. I loved my weekly sewing sessions with her and would love to teach others!

I have been sewing and crocheting since I was 9 years old. I learned the basics from my mother and then took various classes to learn more advanced skills. I am mostly self-taught, but experience is a great teacher!

About the lesson

The first step is to evaluate where you are at in your learning.

Next, I like to know what your goal is. What types of things do you want to make?

Once I know what your end goal is, we can start working towards that goal.

Techniques I would cover with sewing beginners:

-Machine basics: how to thread the machine, understanding the different stitches/when and how to use them, maintenance of your machine, etc.

-Sewing basics: straight lines, curved lines, pivots, backstitching, buttonholes, etc.

Intermediate Students:

-Patterns: how to read a pattern

-Sewing skills: working with interfacing, pockets, zippers, etc.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is your goal? What do you want to make? Of course you need to know the basics, but you also want to walk away from your lessons with the ability to create what you want to create. I would know what your end goal is and look for a teacher who can help you get there.
