About Eric
I am a professional opera singer and arts educator. I have worked on both the administrative, educational/teaching artist side as a practicing professional opera singer.
I understand the basics of vocal technique and employ the methods of Lamperti, Concone and Marchesi in my teaching. I offer practical tools in relation to vocal onset, breath and breath flexibilty, intonation as well as interpretation.
My professional engagements are listed at: (concealed information)
I enjoy working with students who have a curious mind, an open spirit and a sense of play. Singing is a wonderful, liberating and mysterious endeavor as the instrument in on the inside of the person and is directly tied to who they are. In the process of discovering one's self as a singer, the student discovers more about themselves. I love being a part of that process.
My past work experience outside of performance includes working as Director of Education for both Kentucky Opera and Opera Columbus as well as being a teaching artist for the Metropolitan Opera Guild's Urban Voices Program.
I haven't had a vocal studio, but have taught voice through my work with Kentucky Opera and Opera Columbus from 2005-2009 and the Metropolitan Opera Guild beginning in 2017.
I hold a Bachelor Vocal Performance from Capital University (Columbus,OH) as well as Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from The Ohio State Universty. I have been a professional opera singer for 20 years and have worked with students ranging in age from 10 to 50.

I work to understand what they want to get out of voice lessons first. Then, I work to assess what skills they have and make a plan for what we can improve. Finally, based on the style of singing the student wants to work on, I set up a series of lessons with a specific goal in mind. (Example-If a student is interested in musical theater, I would assess what range they possess, what type of musical theater they would be suited to (Belt, Legt, a mixture) and assign literature to help bring out their best qualities while also working on areas to improve (sustained tones, quality of sound, mixing of vocal registers, etc...)
