About Stephanie

I have taught for fourteen years as a vocal instructor in both my private studio and at the college level, and I have developed a reliable and successful lesson structure that I can modify and adapt in consultation with each student, in consideration of their unique short and long term goals. I have taught and coached both individual lessons and group classes, to a variety of students from ages 4-80, beginners with no music reading abilities to fellow professionals. I have tuaght students to sing in many style from classical, musical theater and opera to jazz, pop, country and rock.

Teaching singing is a passion of mine. I love helping people learn about what their voices and bodies are capable of. I find that teaching people to sing helps them become confident in other aspects of life as well, and I enjoy seeing the development that each student makes.

I always knew I wanted to teach, and was often the student helping other students growing up. I also have always loved singing. I started teaching in 2004, teaching the daughter of a friend. I've been teaching fourteen years, and my students often tell me my love for music is infectious!

I have a doctorate, masters, and bachelors degrees all in music specializing in classical vocal performance (singing). I have taken several classes in vocal pedagogy (how to teach singing). I am a member of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and keep myself updated on the lastest teaching techniques.

About the lesson

The first lesson always starts with a conversation about their goals. Knowing their goals allows me to fit the lesson to the student (Do they want to learn to sightread? What styles do the want to learn? etc.). Each student is unique and I enjoy the process of helping their voice emerge!

I have worked with many different types of students, from beginners to colleagues in my field.

I have taught individuals from various cultural, economic, and social backgrounds. This has included high school students, college and graduate school students, retirees, unemployed people and people with all manner of professions, including nannies, dance instructors, photographers, etc.

Don't be afraid to ask questions and get a first lesson from several instructors. You need to find the right teacher for you!

In spring of 2018 I taught lessons as part of an after school scholarship program and coached the choir in performances of current pop hits. I was extremely proud of all the students and the growth they showed over the semester, singing out with confidence and connecting with their audience.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

What styles do they want to learn? Do they want to learn to sightread? How often/ for how long do they want to have lessons? What are their goals for the lessons?
