About David

A lifetime of lessons, performance, and study have helped me to develop the skills every singer needs to succeed on an international level. I stress good technique, musicality, and interpretation to bring the most to every performance. I work with individuals and groups, to help them discover their musical truth, to present well chosen material that highlights each singer's strengths as we work on development of areas in need of improvement.

A Conservatory Degree in Vocal/Choral Education, and a Master's Degree in Teaching have enabled me to discern each student's readiness, and ability, which then moves forward through exercises and technical skill development to bring forth each singer's excellence, ease, and confidence, whether beginner, or seasoned professional.

I stress professionalism in all my work, it sets a solid basis for singers of all levels to "get the job" in the first place, and to place them above their competition in a highly competitive world. My students learn how to present themselves in every aspect, as nothing less than a qualified professional: From song choices to wardrobe, marketing, recording, and performing, and much more, we explore together to determine the truth and honesty of each performance.

When I was in High School, I was a student director, and have continued from there, through graduate school and beyond. I have always found a joy in facilitating a student's learning experience, learning by discovery allows the student to experience what they need, in order to derive the lesson, skill, or insight required to achieve their own musical goals. I strive to address every aspect that leads to development of each student as a "total performer".

My education includes a Bachelor's in Music Degree (Vocal/Choral) and a Master's Degree in Education. I have taught music at levels ranging from elementary schools to professionals, and every level in between. A firm believer in lifelong education, I have also studed post-graduate, with Tony Winners, Grammy Winners, and other professionals in a variety of settings.

About the lesson

I always begin with discussions of the student's objectives so that I can develop learning experiences that move the student toward success. No cookie cutter approach, every student gets individually constructed training that addresses areas where development is desired, while using existing strengths and experiences as the foundation from which to grow.

My work has included individuals ranging in age from 7 years old and up. I have worked with ensembles, including community choirs, musical theatre choruses, and church musicians. Individual students have come from all genre of music, including Pop, Musical Theatre, Opera, Jazz and more.

The best advice I can offer in this area is to select a teacher you feel you can trust, one who will give honest feedback, and one who will help you to achieve the goals you have for yourself. I have been so fortunate to have worked with several teachers who were there to help me achieve my own goals, so I "pay it forward" with my students, realizing I am here to help them succeed, no matter what their musical preferences and past experience may be.

I have been fortunate to have an international career as a solo singer, and continue to work around the US and Europe, it seems I'm always fondest of two projects: the last one, and the next one! I am proud to have been the music director for a recent project in Florida that brought a group of singers to their first recording studio experience, recording the music for "Stand2Gether" which brought South Florida Singers aged 7-70 together to create a short film now in international distribution, to help raise awareness for Suicide Prevention. Using the music of London's David Kent (A New Kind of Strength), we learned so much as individual and ensemble performers, while creating something of significance for at risk youth.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think the most important things a student should consider in working with a teacher are the student's personal goals for taking lessons - How do you intend to use your musical skills? What are your goals in terms of developing these skills? How will you know you are succeeding? I work with every individual on these types of questions, so that I can help them on their own journey - it is different for every student, and I want to honor that so that we make the best use of each student's time.
