An initial interview is important to assess the student's knowledge and his or her most effective learning methods. It is also important to establish goals and objectives based on the student's needs.
I have worked with beginner Spanish speakers who were both typically developing and with special needs.
When learning a new language, I believe that immersing yourself in the culture is the best way to learn. Working with a native speaker or someone who is very familiar with the culture will provide better results.
