About Ilsa

I am a recent college graduate, with one of my BA degrees in Hispanic Studies. I'm from New York City and have been speaking, reading and writing Spanish for eleven years, both in school and out. I've also lived in Granada, Spain for four months where I was able to be completely immersed in the Spanish language, and the culture of southern Spain. I strongly believe that we should all know more than one language, for me, being bilingual has enriched my life enormously, provided me with opportunities around the world, and allowed me to connect with people who I otherwise would not have been able to. I have been a private Spanish tutor for about a year now, and genuinely enjoy connecting with my students and showing them how useful, fun, and valuable being comfortable in another language is. For additional information, feel free to view my LinkedIn profile at: (concealed information)

Learning a new language is such a valuable life skill and I firmly believe in how enriching it can be to be bilingual. I've been granted with so many great experiences because I can speak more than just English. I am passionate about languages, especially Spanish, and would love to help someone else learn this valuable ability.

Coming from New York City, I was able to learn Spanish at school, at the job I worked after school and on weekends, and in my building. I now have a Bachelors of Arts degree in Hispanic Studies from Wheaton College, MA. I also earned Wheaton College's Award for Excellence in Hispanic Studies (2017), and was granted membership to Sigma Delta Phi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (2020). During my time at Wheaton, I also spent a full semester in Granada, Spain where I become completely fluent and comfortable in the language as well as gained a deep appreciation for being bilingual. I've used my skills and interest in Spanish to tutor fellow students at my college, as well as gain private tutoring clients online.

About the lesson

I like to first have a phone or video call with the student to asses their current level of Spanish, and so we can get acquainted before actually starting lessons. Every student is unique and learns differently, so I like to start off with some pretty standard Spanish exercises and curriculum and then modify as need be to best accomodate my student.
