About Emily
Art history is a fascinating subject which allows the student to learn of various cultures through artistic expression. My goal is to have my students have an outstanding comprehensive understanding of the art historical period(s) and movement(s) being taught in their class while making learning enjoyable! I have taught an introductory art history course at a college level, spanning from Antiquity (ancient civilizations) to Contemporary art movements in which I lectured, facilitated group discussions, as well as graded and administered exams and papers. I would be delighted to help my students in areas of particular difficulty, prepare for exams/quizzes, as well as offer guidance and proofread essay drafts.
Additionally, I am proficient in Spanish. I have been learning the language since 2006, and its has developed into a passion of mine. I graduated in 2016 with a dual BA, one being in Spanish. From living abroad in Spain multiple times, traveling to Spanish speaking countries and my academic background, I have the foundation to aid my students in learning and understanding the language. Thus, I can tutor beginning level up to college level Spanish in difficult areas of vocabulary, grammar, literature, and writing

I enjoy spreading the appreciation and understanding of art history and Spanish, as well as seeing my students succeed and excel in these areas.
I was recommened by a graduate professor to teach the introductory survey course at CUNY Hunter College.
I received my BA in Art History and Spanish at SUNY New Paltz. During my time there, I was the President of the college’s Art History Association. Our weekly meetings would help students explore new areas of art as well as help prepare them for exams.
I am currently pursuing my MA in Art History, Criticism and Conservation at CUNY Hunter College. My thesis focuses on the decorative arts of eighteenth-century Mexico and their relationship to private and public aspects of daily life. From conducting graduate research, as well as studying for a comprehensive exam of 1,000+ works of art, I have created a system to organize and focus on critical information.
I have experience teaching an introductory survey class of art history at CUNY Hunter College, in which we covered art and architecture from ancient civilizations to the contemporary moment. I prepared PowerPoints and lesson plans to go over specific movements and periods, which I used to encourage discussion about the information learned. Additionally, I held exam reviews for my students before their midterm and final, in which I answered and clarified any lingering questions. My students had 3 short papers throughout the semester. I offered them feedback on rough drafts and encouraged them to contact me if they wanted any further guidance.
I have a BA in Spanish and experience being fully emerced in the culture and language. I lived in studied in Spain from 2014-2015 (advanced college courses taught in the native language) and have returned multiple times to continue speaking the language. I use my experience teaching art history, as well as my study methods for vocabulary and grammar to help my students.

I like to break the ice with some fun activities to get to know them so it does not feel awkward for them to interact with and reach out to me. For me to help my student in the best way possible, I like to find out how they learn and retain information best, so I can tailor my information to their needs. I like to find out where the student needs help the most, so I can focus on those areas in my plans.
I have worked with freshman and some sophmore college students from all backgrounds.
Prepare questions, no matter how small, so your teacher can tailor their lessons to areas you are struggling in.
