About Allison

About Me

Learning has transformed my life, and helping others discover their own potential is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

For more than 20 years, I've worked across education as an early childhood educator, special educator, instructional coach, university instructor, curriculum designer, and educational leader. I hold master's degrees in Special Education and Early Childhood Education and am completing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Applied Learning Sciences, where my work focuses on how people learn, think, and grow across disciplines.

I enjoy working with learners of all ages—from elementary students building confidence in reading and writing to graduate students tackling research, academic writing, and complex ideas. Whether we're preparing for an exam, organizing a paper, strengthening study habits, or mastering challenging concepts, my goal is always the same: help students become more confident, capable, and independent learners.

What It's Like to Work With Me

I believe every student can succeed when instruction matches how they learn.

Rather than simply giving answers, I help students understand why concepts work, make connections across ideas, and develop strategies they can use long after tutoring ends. I ask thoughtful questions, adapt my teaching to each learner, and create a supportive environment where curiosity is encouraged and mistakes become opportunities for growth.

Students often tell me they leave sessions feeling calmer, more organized, and more confident than when they arrived.

My Experience

Over 20 years in education

Doctoral candidate in Applied Learning Sciences

M.Ed. in Special Education (Vanderbilt University)

M.A. in Early Childhood Education (University of Colorado Denver)

Licensed educator with experience in public schools, international schools, and higher education

Extensive experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and executive functioning challenges

Curriculum and professional development designer

Author and researcher specializing in learning, motivation, and instructional design

What Makes My Tutoring Different

My tutoring is built around learning—not memorization.

Together we will:

Build confidence alongside content knowledge

Develop effective study and organizational strategies

Strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Improve writing, reading comprehension, and communication

Break complex concepts into manageable steps

Create personalized approaches that fit your learning style

I don't believe in one-size-fits-all instruction. Every learner is different, and every tutoring session is designed around your goals.

My Teaching Philosophy

Learning should never feel intimidating.

The best learning happens when students feel supported, challenged, and genuinely understood. My role isn't simply to help you finish an assignment—it's to help you become the kind of learner who can confidently tackle the next challenge on your own.

If you're looking for a tutor who combines deep educational expertise with patience, encouragement, and practical strategies, I'd love to work with you.
