About Angela

AMM Tutoring is run by certified MS Ed General/Special education Teacher Angela McKeown. Angela graduated from Long Island University at the top of her class. As an employee of Rockland BOCES, Angela has over 5 years experience working with special education students of all populations. Angela has worked with grades K-6 and is certified 1-6. Her favorite subject areas to teach are reading, math, science, and social skills. She currently teaches 3rd and 4th grade special education students in a district based program in Rockland County.

AMM Tutoring is geared specifically for your student with special needs, skills, and accommodations. No session with a child is the same as another student's. Tutoring sessions are tailored and differentiated to each student's unique personality, academic and social/emotional needs. Consistent and strong communciation with parents/guardians is extremely important during any tutoring process to ensure student progress and prevent regression. AMM Tutoring holds high expectations for your student while continuously monitoring progression of their goals. Providing rational and achievable goals for our students is critical towards helping each and every one succeed!

Growing up, my father always told my sister and I, "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life." I never truly understood, or even believed him until I started working my amazing students. I wake up every morning excited and ready to go to work and give my all for my students. They truly deserve 110% and that's what I try to provide for them every day. I love that I am a part of their growth, their learning experience, and provide them with multiple opportunities to learn and love coming to school. I love when they love to see me and when they communicate however they can that they are happy I am here for them. My students are why I do what I do and why I absolutely LOVE what I do.

Angela McKeown, founder of AMM Tutoring, has a Master's in Education, general/special education grades 1-6. After completing graduate school at Long Island Universiry in Rockland County, Angela continued to work for a Rockland BOCES, first in a classroom as a leave replacement, then given her very own class just 2 short months later. Angela has been with Rockland BOCES since 2016 and is truly passionate about working with the various population of students each year.

About the lesson

At AMM Tutoring our very first priority is to build positive relationships with our students so they feel safe, comdortable, and ready to learn in their environment. From playing preffered games, to reading their favorite books, building the student tutor relationship is our very first step in the learning process. Once your child and tutor have worked to create a positive learning environment, the student's session will depends on their areas of need, strengths, IEP goals, and parental concerns. Of a parent/guardian asks for tutors to focus on a specific skill or subject, we are flexible in working those requests into your child's tutoring session.
