About
Floating Otters Swim School in Port St. Lucie, FL provides personalized, one-on-one survival swim instruction for infants from crawling age through adults. Serving Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, and Jensen Beach, the program emphasizes water safety first and swimming for enjoyment second. The curriculum teaches the swim-float-swim sequence: swimming face down, rolling to a back float to breathe and rest, then returning to a swim to reach a caregiver or exit. Students also practice these skills while fully clothed. Lessons typically run 10 minutes a day, four days per week, for about 6–8 weeks, followed by maintenance sessions scheduled according to individual needs. Instruction uses positive reinforcement and a sensory-motor approach and does not use flotation devices.
Instructors Virginia and Blake Hannon bring backgrounds in education, coaching, and water safety. Credentials include PediaSwim, American Red Cross infant/child/adult CPR, NAUI scuba, and prior Red Cross Water Safety Instructor experience. Blake also serves on the St. Lucie County Dive Team. Parents receive guidance on how to practice safely and reinforce skills between sessions.
Regular classes are offered Monday through Thursday, with maintenance and sessions for older children and adults available Friday through Sunday. The swim school is located at 1117 SW Irving St, Port St. Lucie, FL 34983.
