About Alex
Hello Students!
My name is Alex Townsend and I am a former division 3 collegiate player and part time tennis coach with over 14 years of experience in the sport. My passion for the game was evident from the first time I picked up a racket and I look to offer the best of expertise to my students in order help achieve the common goal that we all share - improvement!
I am relatively new to coaching but I think I can provide a unique perspective on the sport because I am a young face (fresh out of college) with new opinions (mixed with traditional coaching techniques0.
I have experience from watching recreational players all the way to the professionals
I simply can not stress enough that what I do is empowering and fufilling. Not only do I benefit from seeing the positive looks in my students faces, but I feel as though progress can be made every day even if it is a bad day or lesson.
Every time I coach, not only do my students improve, but I improve. I learn a new technique, or how to motivate a person. I discover their special stroke or attitude. Coaching tennis is not a job to me or work, it is all fun! I want to share that with my students.
After playing for 8 years competitively and gaining a vast amoung of knowledge I assumed that it was the natural next step in my budding career.

Oversaw children aged 7-15 in a fast-paced, fun, coaching enviornment
As a player I played Collegiate Tennis at Division 3 Colby-Sawyer College (NH) I also played high school tennis for Hampden Academy (ME).
o 4x N.A.C. Division Champion, 4x NCAA Tournament Apperances.
o 10-5 Overall Record in all singles and doubles matches
o 4 years of high school tennis where my team made the Maine State Semifinals three years in a row.

I enjoy meeting my students face to face and LISTENING to them. What do my students need to improve upon? What are their goals? What deadlines exist? I hope to convey to my students that not only are they investing in my services to better themselves but to also have tons of fun. This is an essential part of my lessons, I can be serious, and I can be fun at the same time depending on the goals of the student.
Ages 7-20 and I am willing to take on all ages!
I am still in the process of obtaining certifications so I would suggest looking for USPTA and PTR qualifications.
I am pursuing both of those certifications and the knowledge about the game that I posess is more or equal to the entry level certification (Standard USPTA)
Working and Attending the U.S. Open in the player services department!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
This comes back to goal setting once again, what are you as a student looking to get out of your game? What adjustments and improvements can be made? Are you just looking to have fun and get exercise in a social setting or are you trying to become a college or maybe even pro player? After answering these questions I can facilitate my teaching to each students goals.
