About Jay
Personal Bar Prep is a Los Angeles, CA–based, live small-group California bar review course founded in 1995 and led by attorney and director Jay Chavkin. The program delivers all classes live online via Zoom with enrollment intentionally limited for direct access to the instructor. The core course features twice-weekly small-group workshops focused on essay writing, comprehensive MBE workshops covering every subject with answer analysis and strategies, and an interactive performance test workshop. Lectures are condensed and targeted to bar-relevant law, and students may ask questions in real time.
Students complete assigned essays, performance tests, and practice exams that are graded quickly with detailed feedback; unlimited essay grading is included. Each enrollee receives complete study materials, including concise outlines, books, thousands of MBE practice questions, physical flashcards, rule statements, mnemonics, and a detailed study schedule. The schedule accommodates working candidates with weekend lectures and evening sessions.
Personal Bar Prep also offers private bar exam tutoring in intensive online sessions. The program serves first-time takers, repeat takers, and foreign-educated attorneys. Payment plans are available, major electronic payment methods are accepted, and group and military/veteran discounts are offered. A free score analysis is available to candidates who were unsuccessful on a recent exam.
