About Micah
I have over twenty years' experience teaching private lessons on trombone (alto, tenor, and bass), euphonium, and tuba. I perform regularly with symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, and popular groups in my area, and have performed, conducted, and lectured at the International Trombone Festival, the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference, and other major venues. While most of my teaching is at the university level, I also work regularly with students both younger and older than that. My high school students are frequently successful in auditions for all-state ensembles, college scholarships, and competitions. My focus in lessons is to help each student to develop sound fundamental playing skills and then teach students how to apply those to realizing musical goals.
I enjoy helping students to play music at the highest level possible. Whether that's a young player just learning the instrument, or a high schooler wanting to make all-state or receive a college scholarship, an aspiring professional, or even an adult simply wanting to play better for fun--I enjoy working with all of them. In lessons I strive to help students to love, appreciate, and create beautiful sounds, uplifting both themselves and their listeners while smashing stereotypes of what low brass instruments can do.

In the initial lesson I work through fundamental exercises with the student to get a basic idea of the student's strengths, weaknesses, and overall playing level. I also ask lots of questions to learn the student's background, goals, and overall understanding. Based on that initial lesson I assign daily exercises, method books, and/or solo pieces that will help the student to advance and reach his or her potential.
I have worked with students of all levels, from 10 or 11-year-old beginners to returning players in their seventies. Most of my students are university music majors preparing for careers as music educators, but I enjoy working with students of all ages, abilities, and goals. My high school students regularly place highly in all-state ensembles and similar groups and receive college and university scholarships.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Every time I go to him I just get so excited to learn, but I try to keep it professional. I learn so much and he makes me really think which makes it challenging but so exciting to have a different perspective in music!
Dr. Everett understands how to articulate a concept in a way that allows the student to understand it and improve upon it. He is a very good teacher.
Not only has he GREATLY improved my playing over the course of five years, but he has done so without once making me feel bad about myself or my playing.
Accomplished musician who is able to communicate / articulate his skills and techniques to his students. Dr. Everett gets results!
Dr. Everett has been one of the most influential teachers I have ever had. I would not be the muscian I am today without his teaching. He has a profound, well-rounded, and extensive knowledge of brass teaching a well as musicianship.
He really makes an effort to meet the student where they are.
Our child worked with Dr Everett for five years. Lots of rigorous material and technique learned! Our child did very week at all state auditions and earned a lot of music merit scholarship money to go to college.
Dr. Everett really helped me fall back in love with playing my horn in college. His approach is fundamentally logical, and he is specific and concise with his expectations. I would recommend him a thousand times over.
