About Tal

Hi! My name is Tal and I am a passionate violinist, student, and teacher! I have been playing violin since the age of 7 and continue to study and play at University of Massachusetts Amherst. In the past, I have put together string quartets and have played in a variety of ensembles for different settings; musicals, formal concerts, weddings, etc.... I have 2 years of experience teaching middle school violinists in my hometown through internships.

I recognize that each student is obviously different and while I prefer to guide all students through a similar structure as the rest, I always make conscious and consistent efforts to evaluate each student's progression to determine what they need to work on the most

I got into teaching my Sophomore year of high school where I would teach my younger sister and cousins general music theory and musicality. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing my knowledge with them and watching them grow and learn. I continued this into my Junior and Senior year teaching middle school music and violin. I would like to keep going as I progress through college and afterwards.

I have been playing violing since 7 years old and I am currently studying at Umass Amherst where I take lessons and play in ensembles. In high school, I received an "Excellence in Fine Arts Award" for my accomplishments on the violin and in composition.

I have also spent the past two years teaching violin at my local middle school where I grew as a teacher.

About the lesson

I get to know the student on a more personal level and learn about their goals and plans on the violin. I will also take the time to explain how lessons will be structured and allow them to ask any questions.

In my senior year of high school, I worked closely with members and the Director of the school's theater program to put on a show in late May (titled "That's Enterntainment 39" - Fright Night) The 39th anniversary of the show consisted of theater students, dancers, twirlers, and of course, a vibrant pit orchestra. I arranged all of the pieces we played. I conducted a few, played piano in some and violin in the rest. It was a blast and the pit as a whole received a great deal of praise as it was the first time that live music was performed at this show.

What is my end goal?

- Do I want to test the waters or am I committed to learning and growing and continuing to play as I age?

How much time do I REALLY want to spend practicing each week?

- Practice is the key to success in learning the violin. However, students, myself included, often have a tendency to slack off on their practice routines and not make the improvements they should. If no improvements, or efforts to improve, are made in between lessons, the student is wasting their time and money to hear the same thing from their teacher as the last lesson.

Am I ready to work hard and have fun at the same time?

- Violin is challenging but also very rewarding when the work is put in. I have loved every second of my studies and I continue to this day and I'm positive my students will feel the same!
