About Martin
I teach people how to play the cello. With lessons your technique will become natural and you will feel good. I have been a professional cellist for 40 years. I have worked as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician and I have done Broadway. I have a M.M. from Manhattan School of Music. My website is: martinfett.com.
I started teaching when I was a student at Manhattan School of Music. My teacher had many students and he only had so much time. I taught some of his students an hour a week, he only had one half hour a week to see these students. My job was to teach the students the technique that the teacher used.
I have a MM from Manhattan School of Music. I started teaching there as an assistant to my teacher there.

I get to know my new students. I talk to them and I listen to their cello playing. Every student is an individual, and as a teacher, I respect this individuality. I firmly believe that people can learn to do anything. While lessons should be serious, they should also be fun. That is why I try to make my students feel good. I like to teach them to become more aware of their strengths and what work needs to be done, and to have a positive attitude with confidence, so they will enjoy the learning process more and therefore have a better time while they achieve their goals. I work slowly to increase confidence to help students learn something that they may have thought they couldn't do. A student's unique inner world is fascinating. Often times they find out they are smarter than they realize, and I strive to help them perceive this. Lessons should be about discovery allowing thus the student to keep motivated. This motivation will strengthen the things they know and the ability to learn more.
Most of my students have been children aged 6-17. They are elementary through high school aged. I have also taughr adult students.
Look for a teacher that knows what he or she is doing. Find someone who you feel comfortable with.
I have a school that I teach at that only does music lessons. I have a number of students there and at the end of the school year I present a student recital and all of my students perform at this.

He is a very patient and dedicated teacher. He is also very good at explaining how things work in the cello. Every lesson you become better if you also do your work at home with constant practice. I have enjoyed studying cello with Mr. Fett, because he motivates his students.
