About Sophie
I'm a BYU undergraduate student with a passion for music! I've loved the violin since I first started playing at 7 years old and progressed to one of the top violinists in my state when I was in high school. I competed nationally with Bentonville High School in Bentonville Arkansas and currently play in the University Orchestra. I've been first chair and took private lessons from a violinist who was classically trained in Japan. I also started a scholarship fund in my hometown for young aspiring violinists. I want to help new violinists discover the same love for the instrument I did and learn how to overcome obstacles and motivate themselves to improve every day. As my teacher always said, "don't practice until you get it right, practice until you can't get it wrong."
My private teachers made a tremendous impact on my life and I decided I wanted to be able to inspire students in the same way.
I took 4 years of twice-weekly private lessons from a violinist who was classically trained in Japan. I was also part of my high school's top orchestra. I've been playing the violin for 12 years.

Before our first lesson, I'd love to take 5 minutes and chat with the student and parents over the phone to discuss their level, goals, expectations, and just to get to know them a bit more! This will also allow me to prepare for the first lesson and make efficient use of that time.
