About Katie

I am just a genuine, non-judgemental person who wants to help others to understand, learn and succeed in their studies. I can relate extremely well with the pressures of exams, having been through them recently myself. I can give advice on revision techniques and useful websites/notes which helped me gain my high UMS A* grades. Tutoring has always been something I was interested in and I really enjoy helping others, as a side job whilst I study at University. I have tutored A level and GCSE students on a volunteering mentor scheme, which I found rewarding as I helped them progress. From this I learnt that different people find different things hard, if you can’t do something, it is nothing to be ashamed of as people’s minds work differently and people struggle with different things. I have also volunteered in a high school, which has helped me understand the different ways in which people learn, being that: visual diagrams and images, words, flash cards, quizzes or exam questions. Together we can find a technique that works for you. Over the last year I have also tutored online for over 150 hours and gained over 100 5 star reviews. This has also taught me how to provide engaging tutorials to help you retain more information.

About the lesson

The Sessions I aim to make the sessions as full packed as possible, but go at the speed you require, so concepts in which you struggle with can be described clearly. I will use many different things including diagrams/pictures, websites, my A level/GCSE notes, PowerPoint slides, quizzes, exam questions and more to make them as interesting, engaging and detailed as possible, but at the level you require. The sessions will be covering what you want them to cover, focusing on topics you find difficult if you tell me beforehand I will prepare sessions, find resources and exam questions to use, so that they run smoothly. Session Layout example Start: Summary of what we are going to go through in the session, which you have requested beforehand and answer any questions you may have for example from previous sessions. Middle: Main part of lesson going through concepts of session, with aided material e.g. diagrams, slides, pictures etc. Throughout teaching the content I will continuously ask you questions to test your knowledge, have discussions on the topics and ask you to re-explain the concepts to me so that you are actively involved. End: Summary of session, small concept quizzes and exam questions on topics covered. I will also give you some extra resources such as notes, videos which go through the topics you struggled with in more detail. Any questions you will have on the topic will be answered before we end the session, or if you think of some afterwards you can send them to me to answer or we will talk through them at the start of the next session. Extra work: If you want I can give you extra worksheets and exam questions on the topics covered which you can go through in your own time then if you send them to me I will mark them, and give written feedback and discuss it in the next session. However, this is just ideas, the layout of the sessions will be tailored to you, we will do whatever you prefer. But whichever way I will put my full effort in to help you improve and learn.
