About Antony
With a broad background in emergency and prehospital care, I’m passionate about helping future clinicians consolidate their knowledge and experiences gained on the back of an ambulance, while also encouraging them to look beyond it and explore advanced practice roles in primary care, education, expedition medicine, and emergency practice. I’m committed to developing confident, practice-ready graduates and advancing paramedic education through innovation and interprofessional collaboration. My interests also include how political and economic systems influence public health, mental health, and social inequality, and the vital role paramedics can play in prevention, early intervention, and person-centred care across diverse communities.

Qualifications and experience: I am a registered paramedic with over 20 years of clinical experience and have been a university lecturer in Paramedic Science since 2017. I hold an MSc in Health Studies, Education and Leadership, a PGCE, and I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), I also hold a 1st class degree in Critical Care. I have taught across all three years of the BSc Paramedic programme as well as postgraduate level 7 advanced practice modules. I have also written and delivered a level 7 ECG interpretation and analysis module. My tutoring approach is rooted in simplicity, clarity, structure, and compassion. I make complex topics like ECG interpretation, pharmacology, pathophysiology, critical care, academic writing, and university preparation engaging and accessible for paramedic and healthcare students. I use case-based learning and tailor sessions to individual learning styles and specific learning needs. My student-centred teaching incorporates real world examples, active recall, spaced repetition, and formative feedback. Sessions blend structured guidance with open discussion, and I’m known for being approachable, supportive, and attentive to both academic and pastoral needs. I consistently receive strong positive feedback from students who value my ability to explain challenging concepts clearly and create a supportive learning environment. Lessons typically last 60 minutes, depending on the topic and student needs. For more in-depth or practical sessions (e.g., OSCE preparation, A–E assessments, pharmacology workshops), sessions may extend to 90 minutes, often broken into theory and application segments. I teach learners of all ages, but particularly enjoy supporting mature students returning to education. My sessions are ideal for undergraduate and postgraduate paramedic science students, final-year learners preparing for OSCEs or registration, and healthcare professionals seeking confidence in areas like pharmacology, pathophysiology, or prehospital assessment. I teach learners of all ages, but particularly enjoy supporting mature students returning to education. I’m sympathetic to the external factors that can affect learning, such as moving away from home, balancing childcare and relationships, or managing work–life pressures and tailor my approach accordingly. My sessions are ideal for undergraduate and postgraduate paramedic and healthcare students, learners preparing for OSCEs or registration, and healthcare professionals seeking confidence in areas like pharmacology, pathophysiology, or prehospital assessment and academic skills. My experience also includes programme revalidation, curriculum development, and admissions leadership. I have received consistently high module evaluation scores and positive student feedback, and I have been nominated for teaching awards. I also hold instructional roles with external organisations such as the Football Association (ATMMiF and ITMMiF training).

Perfect! Antony was able to create a lesson plan that was tailored to my dyslexia and ADHD. He gave me the confidence to complete my first assignment for my paramedic degree.
