About Troy

Experienced vocal teacher available for private lessons. All levels and ages. I will help you develop the skills you need to express you own true voice. I can help you strengthen your voice, improve your range, and build stamina and endurance in your singing. Sing the songs that you love, but with a new confidence through proper technique and an enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher who loves music as much as you do! Plus, I will come to you! I offer private lessons in your home. Flexible scheduling and competitive pricing. Prefer Romeo/Washington/Shelby area, but will certainly consider further distances like Utica/Sterling Heights/Rochester for serious students. Also willing to drive even further, but obviously it will cost more depending on where you live (you have to consider the extra time and gas). Sometimes just finding the right teacher that knows what to do with your talent is all that stands in your way. And no matter how long you have been singing, no one is 'beyond' needing coaching.

So many vocal teachers offer to teach all different 'styles' and it sounds appealing. But if they are teaching you a 'style' they are doing you a great disservice! Style should come from your personal expression and what kind of music you apply your voice to, not some kind of stylized 'method' that someone has dreamed up. This is very important! Sometimes we are so geared up to sing a certain kind of music that we are willing to take short cuts to sound like our favorite singers.

DON'T STRIVE TO SOUND LIKE YOUR FAVORITE SINGER, STRIVE TO DEVELOP YOUR OWN VOICE SO ONE DAY YOU'LL BE SOMEONES FAVORITE SINGER!

I will teach you how your voice works and how it already knows how to sing far better than you do, then train it and train you to get out of your own way and let your voice work FOR you instead of you having to work IT. If you force your voice to do things that are unnatural, it creates tension, tension will limit your range, resonance and likely inhibit your pitch.

If it's not healthy and natural, then it's wrong. It takes work, but it's ultimately very simple. Too many people have this put on 'singing voice' rather than their true voice. If you're 'putting on' a voice to sing with, you are getting in your own way. Let me show you how to get rid of all of the bad habits that we as singers are so prone to.

I have already given away more than I should in just an add, but I want to impart the basics of what these lessons will deal with: YOU, and how to sound like YOU, and how to sing in a way that is completely healthy and natural that will help to develop all the range and power and tone your voice is ultimately capable of.

About the lesson

This is what I offer in my lessons as a vocal coach to you. I deal in only the facts, not methods or fads that are more like crash diets than true singing. The facts are in the biology of how your voice works. How the body makes sound, projects sounds and sustains sound. The ultimate irony is that gaining vocal control is not learning how to 'control' your voice, but learning how to control YOURSELF, so as to not impose anything on your voice that is unnatural and therefor limiting to your voice.
