About David

I have always thought that writing was a bit like learning to speak, only this time you have to make sense on paper. Some people find that easy; most don’t, and honestly, that is normal. I have worked with enough students to know that good writing is not really about talent. It is about figuring out how your thoughts fit together, even when they feel scattered.

I have been teaching and editing for about five years now. During that time, I have helped students write essays that got them A’s and personal statements that opened doors to colleges they had once thought were out of reach. I don’t take full credit for that, of course, they do the hard part. But I like being the person who helps things click. There is this small moment, usually after a revamp, when a student reads their work again and says, “Oh, this actually sounds good.” That is the best part for me.

My lessons are built around that feeling. I try to make learning to write feel less like a performance and more like a process. We talk, rewrite, and read things aloud. Sometimes I tell stories about my own mistakes just to show that even people who write for a living still get stuck. I think it helps.

If you want a patient tutor who explains things clearly and who actually enjoys seeing you improve, I think we will work well together. Writing can be taught, and confidence can, too. And that is what I really want my students to take away from our lessons.

Most of the time, students think writing is about getting every word right. But I have learnt it is more about finding a rhythm that feels like your own. Most people already have good ideas; they just get lost trying to sound perfect. I used to do that too, edit a single line for hours, and still not like it.

In my lessons, we slow things down. We talk, figure out what is really being asked, and start from there. I like to see where your thoughts naturally go before we start shaping them. It is easier that way. Once you understand your topic, your sentences start to make more sense. You stop writing to impress and start writing to explain, which is a big difference.

A lesson with me usually starts with a short chat about what you are working on. Maybe it is a school essay, a college statement, or something you have been rewriting for days. We look at what is working, what is not, and how to make it clearer. Sometimes we plan, sometimes we just write. I will give examples, ask a few questions, maybe tell you what I have seen other students try, and bit by bit, we clean up your work until it finally sounds like you.

Most of my students are in high school or college. Some want higher grades, while others want their essays to stand out when applying to college. What they all seem to find working with me is that little moment of truth when they realize, “Oh, writing isn’t as hard as it felt”. That is my favorite part.

If you want a space where your writing can grow at its own pace, I think you’d feel at home here.
