About Sara
I'm Sara, a recent graduate with a Master's in Landscape Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design with a background in Environmental Design and Interior Design. Throughout my academic career, I have won multiple awards and been featured in several publications for my work in landscape design. Currently, I am engaged in specialized research focused on landscape and design, while balancing freelance interior design projects alongside my full-time role as a landscape architect. My proficiency spans across industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite, enabling me to offer comprehensive tutoring in both the creative and technical aspects of design.
With experience working one-on-one and in small groups, I have helped students refine their portfolios, improve their design skills, and master essential software. My approach centers on providing constructive feedback, tailored critiques, and practical examples drawn from my own professional and academic experiences so that any student can understand the process of design detail from the logic rather than a top down approach. I have worked with design students of various levels, assisting them in building confidence in their work and preparing for professional opportunities. Most of my experience culminated within my time in and between graduate school as I built my teaching experience as Teaching Assistants for one-on-one help. I also have an extensive history in coaching younger to high school level students the basics of portfolio prep for any college. My ultimate goal is to help students develop a distinct design voice while equipping them with the technical expertise required for success.
Beyond tutoring, I am passionate about teaching and aspire to instruct at the university level in the future. Whether someone is looking to elevate a portfolio, sharpen design skills, or receive project critiques, I strive to collaborate in making the best possible creative vision together.

My tutoring approach is rooted in a combination of academic rigor and practical experience in landscape architecture, graphic design, interior design, and portfolio/software guidance. I strive to create a dynamic learning environment where students feel encouraged to engage with design concepts critically and creatively. I focus on adapting my teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each student, providing lots of real world precedents and cases for reference and understanding to ensure a personalized experience that fosters growth and confidence.
In a typical lesson, I begin by assessing the student’s current skills and objectives, whether that involves mastering design software like AutoCAD or Rhino, or refining their design portfolios. I incorporate hands-on exercises that challenge students to apply theoretical concepts to practical projects. For instance, during software lessons, I might guide them through a project or small task, providing step-by-step instructions while emphasizing industry best practices which students tend to remember when recalling it for bigger tasks. For portfolio critiques, I focus on the narrative behind their work which help their own voices be heard, helping them articulate their design intentions and methodologies in a compelling way that will set you apart from all other pinterest boards you see online.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my comprehensive background, which includes multiple awards and publications in landscape architecture, as well as my ongoing research in the field. This combination of academic pursuit and professional interdisciplinary background allows me to offer students not only technical skills but also a deeper understanding of design principles and their application in real-world scenarios.
My lessons are suitable for high school students, undergraduate and graduate students in landscape architecture, architecture, and related fields, as well as recent graduates aiming to elevate their portfolios or skill sets. Whether you are beginning your journey in design or preparing for a career transition, I am dedicated to helping you achieve your specific goals and realize your potential in the field.
