I'm a graduate of Musicians Institute, Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), in Hollywood, California. I've been teaching for decades, and I LOVE it! I teach most styles, including Rock, Blues, Jazz, Fusion, Classical, Fingerstyle, Acoustic, and Metal. And I've played in many different bands over the years.

My teaching style depends a lot on a student's motivation,
amount of practice, personality, music style preferences, and ability. For most beginning students, though, I start with the "CAGED" system, which is a set of five common, open chords/shapes that are easy for beginners to learn. These chords don't require complex finger movements, and they're heard in MANY songs in many styles. Each lesson usually centers around one to a few of these chords, again depending on individual differences. From there, the student and I decide on songs he or she would like to learn and that are within his or her abilities at that time.
A certain number of well-defined targets is much easier for beginning students to understand. Giving them too much with each lesson inevitably becomes overwhelming.
I also emphasize technique over theory -- at least at first, and unless a student express a particular interest in it.
