About Jaime

Hey there! I'm "Jimmie" an HPL Lecturer at the University of West London, and honestly, I just love teaching! I've got a First-Class BA (Hons) in Music Production & Sound Engineering, which was pretty cool to achieve, and I even won the awesome 2018 AMS Neve Prize. I've been working as a freelance recording, mixing, and mastering engineer for over ten years now. So, I've seen it all, worked across tons of different music styles. Plus, being a Studio Technician overseeing 13 studios means I know my way around the gear inside out. All this real-world experience really helps me make sure my teaching is spot-on and practical! What makes my lessons a bit different? Well, I used to be a DJ and performer putting to test my own productions across clubs and festivals, so I get the "artist's perspective." That helps me explain the tech stuff in a way that truly makes sense for actually making music. I'm here to give clear, professional, and inspiring guidance to help you smash your music production goals!

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is hands-on and student-focused. I specialise in guiding beginners, regardless of age, through the exciting world of music production. I am specialised in Dub & Bass Music and Boom Bap hip hop, but also put my hands in many other genres. My methodology centres on demystifying the creative process, helping you not only understand the technical aspects but also cultivate a seamless workflow. I'll take you step-by-step through software like Ableton Live, and expertly guide you with hardware instruments such as Akai MPC, Roland SP404 MKII or Elektron Digitakt. We'll explore everything from foundational concepts to practical application, ensuring you build confidence and genuine fluency. Each lesson is typically one hour in length, designed to be engaging and packed with actionable insights tailored to your learning pace and goals. My experience in both academic instruction and professional audio production allows me to offer a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and real-world techniques. My aim is to empower you to create your own music and confidently navigate the tools of modern music production.
