About Aurell
My relationship with the violin began at the age of six, sparking a lifelong dedication that saw me turn professional by just twelve years old. This early start provided me with a deep, intuitive understanding of the instrument, one that I now pass on to my students. With a Master’s degree in Violin Performance (Scholarship for Excellence) from the Australian Institute of Music, my teaching is backed by decades of rigorous practice and performances.
Having played since early childhood, I place immense value on the principles of aural development. I don't just teach you how to move your fingers; I teach you how to listen, ensuring your intonation and musicality are professional from the start.
From performing in the G20 Orchestra at Borobudur Temple to my 2024 collaboration with Laufey, my career spans the highest levels of classical and modern music. As a founder of Efrata Strings and a teacher, I understand the "big picture" of musical education, helping students navigate everything from AMEB exams to high-pressure auditions.
Whether you are an adult learner starting your own journey or a parent looking for an experienced mentor for your child, I bring a level of professionalism and empathy that only comes from someone who has lived and breathed music for over twenty years. I offer a structured, encouraging environment where we bridge the gap between technical discipline and pure artistic joy.

My approach to teaching is built on the belief that technical mastery and artistic expression should develop hand-in-hand, whether you are picking up the instrument for the first time or preparing for a high-stakes exam. I draw from my international training to create a curriculum that is both disciplined and deeply personal.
I utilize a hybrid pedagogical approach, blending the rigorous foundations of the Russian and Bulgarian schools with modern, ergonomic techniques. For students, this means:
- The "Sound-First" Principle: We focus on developing a rich, resonant tone from day one, ensuring the physical relationship with the violin or viola is relaxed and natural.
- AMEB Strategy: For those on the exam track, I provide comprehensive preparation that includes technical work, sight-reading, and aural training (shout out to Aurell for the inspiration in keeping the ear sharp!).
- Tailored Repertoire: For adult learners, I balance classical foundations with contemporary interests—drawing from my own experiences ranging from the G20 Orchestra to modern collaborations like my project with Laufey.
Lesson Structure & Length
I offer flexible sessions tailored to the student’s age and attention span:
- 30 Minutes ($50): Ideal for younger beginners to maintain focus.
- 45 Minutes ($70): The "sweet spot" for intermediate students or focused AMEB prep.
- 60 Minutes ($90): Recommended for advanced students, adults, and those working on complex concerto repertoire.
Qualifications & Professional Experience
I hold a Master’s degree in Violin Performance from the Australian Institute of Music, where I studied under a scholarship for excellence. My experience is truly global:
- International Mentorship: Studied at the Singapore Violin Festival under world-class masters and collaborated with icons like Sam Haywood.
- Performance Career: From leading with the Sydney Youth Orchestra to performing world premieres by Ananda Sukarlan and founding Efrata Strings.
- Professional Pedagogy: I have been a professional musician since age 12, giving me a unique perspective on the dedication required to excel at every level.
Who These Lessons Are For
I welcome students of all backgrounds at my home studio in Waterloo:
- The Aspiring Professional: Students looking to master AMEB grades or prepare for auditions.
- The Adult Learner: I specialize in teaching adults who are either returning to the instrument or starting a new hobby; I adapt my communication style to suit mature goals.
- The Next Generation: Young beginners who want a fun but structured introduction to string playing.

Aurell tutoring is very useful and helps students a lot with learning
She is great at explaining, and I would highly recommend her.I’ve been learning violin with Aurell and she has helped me improve so much. She is very kind, patient, and always explains things in a way that’s easy to understand. Her lessons are enjoyable and motivating, and she always encourages me to do my best. I would definitely recommend her to other students looking for a great violin teacher.
Aurell has been very supportive throughout my learning. She really trusts the process and is very passionate about teaching violin. I struggled with reading a piece at first, but she guided me step by step until I finally got it.
I highly recommend Aurell to future students. She truly cares about her students and will help you improve with confidence. She is also super nice and really coolI don't know the first thing about the violin, but Aurell made it look easy! My daughter was playing a simple song after her very first lesson, which was amazing to see. Aurell is so kind, high-spirited, and always has a big smile, the perfect energy for a child. I truly believe my daughter will progress fast with such an encouraging teacher. Highly recommended!
