About Sagar
My journey with the Indian Bamboo Flute began in the year 2014. Began formal training of the Bansuri under Shri. Chinmay Karmakar (disciple of Pt. Himangshu Biswas) lasting for 3 years. Further training of the Hindustani Classical Music continues under the tutelage of Violin maestro Shri. Sanjoy Ghosh (disciple of Padma Bhushan Pt. V.G. Jog). Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan had once said in an interview, “Music is an ocean … but I have barely reached the shore”. I want to share whatever little I know and spread the warmth and joy possible through music. Come, let's play!

The lessons are theoretically grounded in Hindustani Music (North Indian Classical). However, relevant comparisons to "Western" approach of scales, tonic, modes, etc are also made, in order to appreciate and develop an understanding of a variety of music systems. "Shruthi Mata, Laya Pita". In Indian Classical Music, the tone and the rhythm are essentials to a strong foundational structure. This, in turn, would enable one to design and build complex musical structures culminating in the exploration of various ragas. "Taansen banne ke liye, pahle Kaan-sen bano" Ear-training is an essential aspect of learning music. It is important to hear and understand the nuances of the sounds we hear, be it the movement of the notes (sur) or the way it moves (Chhand/ Taal). Once your musical sensibilities develop, they open your doors to the ways in which different raagas are expanded and interpreted (i.e. raagdaari). Subsequently, this training also helps in picking up different genres of music to jam along and musically communicate with other musicians. Essentials for the Class: a bansuri, electronic tanpura and tabla (apps are fine as well, preferably used with a Bluetooth speaker). Classes conducted for: Beginners, Intermediate Age Limit - None
