About Edith

Architecture is my profession and I love art and am particularly passionate about Chinese brush calligraphy since school age. I learned Chinese Calligraphy and ink/watercolor painting in Hong Kong for many years. I host small group classes for beginners from age 16 to learn basic strokes and introduction of various scripts and ink/watercolor drawings. I also teach kids arts and craft classes. More details and class dates (usually Saturdays) and works of our studio can be seen at (concealed information) My favorite is the traditional script 楷書 but I also practice other scripts.

About the lesson

My class size is around 1-3 people in my studio in Fitzroy or at a private room in your local library. This encourages students to learn from each other and feel more relaxed and enjoy it more. Private bookings. Please make an appointment at least 3 days prior. During classes, I will focus on calligraphy and ink/water calligraphy on the side. We suggest 4 lessons in total will be a good introduction to basic skills in writing traditional font, sealed font, and curvy font. Enquire and make a booking now and enjoy discounts! Each class is 60min. $33 per person for one class $60 for two people or two classes. Dates are flexible. Please enquire by emailing us directly your preferred dates. I use plenty of script templates and demonstrate strokes and sequences. Our class is 60min so plenty of practice and question time is possible. I also talk about the history and stories of Chinese characters, poems, Chinese stamps (圖章), and the stationery set: paper, brush, and ink (文房四寶). I speak fluent English and Cantonese and I focus on Traditional Chinese in the writing. All stationery and cleaning wipes will be provided.

Perfect! Edith is a skilled and knowledgeable teacher who teaches in a practical way - she observes and gives lots of tips as you are writing so that you can improve with each and every stroke. I really enjoyed our class before Lunar New Year as she taught us how to write traditional New Year decorations!
