About Pirverdiyev

If your rating has not moved in two years, more videos will not fix it. Something specific is going wrong in your games, and it is usually the same thing every time. My job is to find it in the first session and give you a way to think that does not depend on memory.

I am Agil Pirverdiyev, a FIDE Master based in Baku, Azerbaijan, teaching students worldwide online. My FIDE ratings are 2508 rapid and 2411 classical, FIDE ID (concealed information) I won the World Championship at Under 16 and the European Championship at Under 14, and I took a team silver medal at the Chess Olympiad. Fifteen years of coaching and more than 100 students later, my teaching is built around one method rather than a pile of material.

Timing is the question American families ask first, so here is the answer. I teach from UTC+4, which means my weekend falls exactly on your morning: Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 3pm US Eastern, 5am to 12pm Pacific, every week. Weekday mornings US Eastern are open for homeschool families and for adults before work.

The method starts with four questions, asked in any position where the plan is not obvious. What is my worst piece? What does the pawn structure tell me? What does my opponent want? Which exchange can I force?

Answer them honestly and a confusing position becomes two or three sensible candidate moves. Answer them inside a structure you recognise and you often already know the plan. That is the second half of what I teach: eight pawn structures that come up again and again, and what the four questions mean inside each one. The isolated queen's pawn. Hanging pawns. The Carlsbad structure and the minority attack. The open file and the seventh rank. Opposite-side castling. The closed centre with a backward pawn. Good knight versus bad bishop. Space advantage and the exchange rule.

What students mention most is the game analysis. I read your own games, name the recurring error, and hand you targeted homework instead of a reading list.

I work with adult improvers and with juniors preparing for rated events. The first 30 minutes are free.

One-to-one online lessons on a shared board. Send five to ten recent games in advance, including the losses you did not understand, and the first lesson starts with your play rather than with introductions.

Each session has the same shape. We take a position from your own game and you answer the four questions out loud, so I can hear how you are actually deciding rather than guessing at it. I show you where the reasoning breaks. Then we place the position inside the structure it belongs to and go through the plans that structure allows, so the next time you reach it you are recognising rather than calculating from scratch.

You leave every lesson with concrete homework: usually a small set of positions and one study task, aimed at the specific mistake we found. We check it at the start of the next lesson. Homework that is never reviewed does not get done, so I review it.

Between lessons you can send me games and I will comment on them.

FOR PARENTS. Lessons run on Zoom with a shared board. You are welcome to join or watch any lesson, announced or not. Every lesson is recorded and the recording goes to you, so your child can watch it again during the week and you can see exactly what was taught. Scheduling and messages come to you, never to your child alone.

WHEN. Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 3pm US Eastern, which is 5am to 12pm Pacific. Weekday mornings US Eastern for homeschool families and for adults before work. I teach from UTC+4, which is the reason the American weekend morning is the easiest slot in my week rather than the hardest.

This suits adults roughly 1000 to 1900 who have plateaued and want to understand why, and juniors preparing for rated tournaments who need honest feedback on where they stand. Complete beginners are welcome too, and starting with a correct method saves years later.

The first 30 minutes are free. We look at one of your games, I tell you honestly what is holding the rating back, and you decide after that.
