About William

I’m a tutor with a strong academic background in biology and ocean sciences, having received my BSc in Biology and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria. I also bring hands-on research experience, including marine conservation projects, field surveys, and ecological monitoring.

I enjoy helping students build confidence and understand complex concepts in a clear, engaging way. Patient, approachable, and enthusiastic, I tailor my lessons to each student’s needs to make learning both effective and enjoyable.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to make biology feel clear and manageable, with two main priorities:

(1) Helping students truly understand what they are learning.
(2) Making sure they can confidently remember and apply key biological concepts when it matters most.

Each lesson begins by identifying what you are currently working on and where things feel confusing. From there, I follow a clear, structured approach:

(1) I break biological concepts into their simplest parts
(2) I suggest practical ways to study and memorize important diagrams, terms, and definitions
(3) We build those pieces back together so you can explain ideas clearly and scientifically
(4) We work through practice problems, exam-style questions, or sections of lab reports so you can apply what you’ve learned

A typical session includes:

(1) Reviewing upcoming tests, assignments, or lab reports

(2) Clarifying difficult topics in biology, ecology, or environmental science

(3) Practicing data interpretation or exam questions

(4) Developing a study plan so you can work more efficiently on your own

What sets me apart is the combination of academic biology and real-world scientific experience. I have worked in fisheries and conservation projects, collected and analyzed ecological data, and completed independent research at a Canadian university. This allows me to explain not only what the material says, but also how it is used in real science and environmental work — helping to stay motivated and inspire interest in the subject.

My lessons are ideal for:
(1) High school students taking Biology or an Environmental Science equivalent
(2) AP or IB Biology students
(3) University students in first or second-year Biology, Ecology, Oceanography, or Environmental Science
