About Michael
I have a strong background in advanced mathematics, having studied math at an advanced level throughout high school, with particular strengths in algebra and trigonometry. I have also worked as a teaching assistant for the past two years, giving me experience helping others learn and understand new concepts.
My strength in mathematics comes from understanding why formulas and methods work, rather than simply memorizing steps. I enjoy breaking down difficult concepts and showing how different approaches can lead to the same solution. I believe this understanding is especially valuable when helping students who struggle with a topic or feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar problems.
As a tutor, I take a patient and adaptable approach, adjusting my explanations to each student's needs and level of understanding. I aim to build both mathematical ability and confidence, so students can eventually work through problems independently. Whether you need help improving your grades, preparing for an exam, or strengthening your foundation in algebra, geometry, or trigonometry, I will work with you to identify areas for improvement and make steady progress toward your goals.

My approach to tutoring is focused on helping students understand why math works, rather than simply memorizing formulas and steps. I have always had a strong understanding of algebra and trigonometry, and one of my strengths is being able to look at a problem from different angles and understand why different strategies can lead to the same answer.
A typical lesson would begin by identifying what the student is struggling with and making sure the underlying concept is understood. I would then work through examples with the student, explain the reasoning behind each step, and have them work through similar problems themselves. If one method does not make sense to them, I can approach the problem differently rather than simply repeating the same explanation.
What sets me apart is that I have always been interested in the reasoning behind mathematics. I don't want a student to leave a lesson knowing how to solve one specific problem but not knowing what to do when the problem looks different. My goal is for them to recognize the relationships within the problem and understand why the strategies they are using actually work.
My lessons are best suited for middle school and high school students taking general mathematics, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, or Trigonometry. I am especially interested in helping students who want to improve their understanding of math rather than relying entirely on memorization.
