About Gretchen
I help singers develop a free, expressive classical voice rooted in healthy technique and artistic truth.
I’m a conservatory-trained vocalist, stage director, and teacher with a deep commitment to both technical excellence and artistic authenticity.
I hold a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory, and my work is grounded in a strong classical foundation with extensive experience in art song, opera, and vocal pedagogy, as well as advanced study in French and German diction. I have also studied and worked in opera stage directing in Berlin, an experience that continues to shape how I approach interpretation, storytelling, and performance in my teaching.
In addition to my conservatory training, I have been affiliated with Berklee College of Music, where I studied electronic music production and worked with a diverse range of students and musical styles. This broader background allows me to support students in developing both strong technique and a flexible, creative artistic identity.
I’m particularly drawn to working with singers who are thoughtful, curious, or may not feel fully at home in more rigid or traditional learning environments. As a teacher, I’m known for being patient, perceptive, and highly individualized in my approach. I take time to understand how each student learns and experiences their voice, and I adapt my teaching accordingly.
In addition to voice, I also teach music literacy and theory, including solfège and college-level Theory I & II. I enjoy helping students connect the intellectual and physical sides of music-making in a way that feels clear and accessible.
My work as both a musician and educator is guided by the belief that the voice is not something to “fix,” but something to discover and refine with care, curiosity, and respect.

I offer classical voice lessons for students ages 12 through adult, with a focus on healthy, sustainable technique and authentic artistic development.
My goal is to help you discover your natural, unmanufactured voice—one that feels free, expressive, and truly your own, rather than shaped by external expectations.
I work especially well with:
• Young singers building their first technical foundation
• Adult beginners seeking a thoughtful, structured introduction
• Sensitive or neurodivergent students who benefit from a patient, supportive environment
Lessons are highly individualized, and may include:
• Classical vocal technique (breath, support, resonance, registration)
• Expanding range and stability without strain
• Art song interpretation and text-driven storytelling
• French, German, and English diction
• Introductory opera aria work (as appropriate)
• Select “legit” musical theater repertoire
• Music reading for singers (including solfège)
• Music Theory (pre-college, Theory I & II support)
Beyond technique, I place a strong emphasis on developing your artistic voice. We use repertoire as a way to explore expression, language, and communication—not just accuracy.
My teaching style is nurturing, detail-oriented, and open-minded. I believe there are many valid ways to be an artist, and I strive to support each student as a whole person. Lessons are a space to experiment, take risks, and grow without judgment.
Students often notice not only vocal improvement, but a greater sense of ease, confidence, and clarity in their singing.
If you’re looking for classical training that supports both technical excellence and personal expression, I’d be happy to work with you.
Feel free to message me before booking so we can discuss your goals and make sure we’re a good fit.
