About Lauren

I’m an artist and illustrator with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and several years of experience working in studio and teaching environments. Art has been a central part of my life for a long time, not just as a skill, but as a way to explore ideas, emotions, and personal expression. I enjoy working across different mediums and approaches, and I’m always excited by the process of experimentation and discovery.

I value curiosity, patience, and growth over perfection, and I love helping others reconnect with their creativity in a way that feels genuine and sustainable.

Outside of teaching, I continue to practice and develop my own work, staying engaged with the creative process and bringing that energy into my lessons. I’m passionate about making art feel approachable, meaningful, and something people feel excited to return to.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is structured but flexible, combining clear instruction with hands-on practice and creative exploration. I focus on building strong fundamentals in drawing and painting, such as observation, proportion, value, and color theory, while adapting lessons to each student’s interests and goals. I use demonstrations, guided exercises, visual references, and constructive feedback to help students understand both the how and the why behind what they’re learning.

A typical lesson begins with a brief check-in and warm-up exercise, followed by focused instruction or a demonstration of a specific concept or technique. Students then apply what they’ve learned through guided practice or a project, with ongoing feedback and encouragement throughout the session. When appropriate, we’ll also review finished work together to build visual vocabulary, reflection skills, and confidence.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my emphasis on confidence building alongside skill development. Having experienced creative self-doubt myself, I’m especially attentive to helping students move past perfectionism and fear of “doing it wrong.” I aim to create a supportive, low pressure environment where mistakes are part of the learning process and progress feels achievable.
My lessons are designed for beginners through intermediate students, including kids, teens, and adults.
