About Miguel
Hi there! I’m a professional guitarist with many years of experience teaching, performing, leading workshops, and recording. Throughout my career, I have collaborated and toured with musicians from around the world, exploring a wide range of musical traditions and styles. I am also the founder and bandleader of Miguel Espinoza Fusion, an award-winning Denver-based ensemble that blends flamenco, jazz, classical, and world music influences into a unique and expressive sound. Our group has been recognized as Denver Westword’s Best of World Music, performed with symphony orchestras, and collaborated with Grammy-winning artists including Bela Fleck,Howard Levy and David Balakrishnan of the Turtle Island Quartet. Our music draws inspiration from flamenco, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, Indian classical, and other global traditions. Whether you’re a complete beginner, an intermediate player looking to break through a plateau, or an advanced guitarist seeking deeper musical expression, I offer personalized one-on-one instruction tailored to your goals. My teaching focuses not only on technique, but also on rhythm, creativity, musicality, and developing your own artistic voice. I would love to help you take your playing to the next level and discover the joy of making music.

My approach to teaching is centered on helping students understand how music works so they can become more confident and independent musicians. Rather than just learning songs or exercises, we’ll focus on the concepts behind what you’re playing and how to apply them in different musical situations. Whether you’re a beginner learning the fundamentals or an experienced player looking to expand your skills, lessons are tailored to your goals and interests. Topics can include technique, music theory, chord harmony, scales, improvisation, rhythm, and creativity. I teach a variety of styles, including Flamenco, Salsa, Latin Jazz, Rock, and Blues. I also teach bass guitar and ukulele in a unique and fun way. My goal is to give students practical tools they can use right away while helping them develop a deeper understanding of the music they love.

Miguel is a master guitarist and a world class human being. I have taken lessons from him for many years, and he continues to push my technical and artistic boundaries every time we meet. His depth of musical knowledge is profound; after every lesson I am inspired challenged to grow as a musician and artist.
Denver is incredibly lucky to have the likes of Miguel Espinoza here. He is a truly great guitarist and composer, and also a teacher of the highest caliber. His students absolutely love him and he is accustomed to having great success in that they advance very quickly under his guidance. He’s one of the most creative musicians that most people have ever met, and he is also creative in his approach to teaching guitar. His students not only learn lots of great technical skills, but also rhythmic and musical skills as well. He teaches all ages, all levels, and most every style. But his area of expertise is Flamenco, so if you can learn some of that with him, you are learning from the very best!
Miguel has been an instructor for my daughter for the past couple years and he has been outstanding. Kind, patient, great at meeting his students where they are at.
Miguel did a great job starting with ukulele and then moving into guitar. He and my daughter worked together so well that she was chosen as an example student for our towns music program in a city council presentation.
I highly recommend Miguel and always look forward to what my daughter will learn next.I highly recommend Miguel as both a guitarist and teacher. I play percussion in Miguel’s flamenco fusion ensemble, and when I first joined the group, I had no background in the flamenco style. Miguel was instrumental in helping me learn the style through his patience, clarity, and ability to break down difficult musical concepts in a way that felt approachable and inspiring. He created an environment where I felt comfortable asking questions, experimenting, and growing as a musician.
Miguel is an incredible guitarist and composer with deep musical knowledge, excellent ensemble instincts, and a strong artistic vision.
Beyond his musicianship, he is genuinely a joy to work with and be around. He has a great sense of humor, keeps rehearsals fun and welcoming, and brings a lot of positive energy to the group. At the same time, he knows exactly when to shift into a focused and professional mindset to bring out the best in the ensemble.
I recommend Miguel as a guitar teacher because he is patient, encouraging, and highly intuitive as an educator. He meets students where they are, explains concepts clearly, and knows how to motivate people without making them feel intimidated. His combination of musical excellence, professionalism, warmth, and creativity makes him an outstanding teacher and collaborator.I've been taking lessons for 1 year now from Miguel. My playing is in another league now because of what he showed me. He'll show me any techniques I ask for and make sure I practice them properly. Flamenco is highly nuanced and very few teachers will be able to properly demonstrate, count and intuitively build upon the material they give you. Miguel can definitely do that and he's a super cool guy.
Miguel has been my guitar maestro for 9 years now. He is true master of his art, musical genius, and a very kind soul. No matter where you are on your guitar journey, Miguel will meet you there and take you where you want to go.
I’ve known Miguel for about 20 years, many of which I’ve studied with him. Miguel is a true maestro. If you want to learn how to improvise and understand why music does what it does he is your man. He is also incredibly talented as a musician. Not just in flamenco, Latin, and jazz, but all forms. Great with people of all ages.
