About Danielle
I graduated from New York University in 2012 with a double-major in political science and Spanish literature. Working on my senior thesis inspired me to pursue graduate school, so I went on to earn my MA in Politics at Brandeis and will graduate with my PhD in political science from American University in August 2022. I’ve taught courses in comparative politics, American politics, gender politics, political theory, Middle East politics, and public policy at American University and Saint Anselm College. Prior to teaching in higher education, I worked in middle-school classrooms, after-school programs, and Spanish-language immersion camps, so I have experience helping students of many ages in an array of diverse subjects.
Teaching is my passion—the reason I left higher education is so I could focus more deeply my students. Though I did well academically, school was often harder for me than it appeared to my teachers, family, and friends. I was dealing with undiagnosed barriers to learning, barriers I came to better understand through helping students overcome their own. I love helping students avoid having to struggle in the ways that I did for so long. Outside of teaching, I love listening to music (almost every genre you can think of) and podcasts (a balanced mix of news and true crime); reading poetry and creative non-fiction; hiking and exploring nature (mountains > beach but it’s ok if you disagree!); and hanging out with my wife and my pets (a menagerie of weirdos, both canine and feline).

I’ve taught college-level classes for four years (and have been in the education field for more than a decade, with experience with students ranging from third graders to graduate students), so I know what your teachers and professors are looking for in your writing. At the same time, I know that many students have a hard time translating what is in their brain onto the page, so I am happy to work with you through all phases of your essay, research paper, or project—from brainstorming to final edits. I love helping students connect their coursework to their interests, which will make your classes more engaging and enjoyable for you once you can transform your class into a lens to understand issues and ideas you care about. I have a lot of experience working with neurodivergent students, and being an ADHD-er myself, I have lots of strategies to share with you that will help you process what you’re reading, focus your writing, and come up with a plan for your assignments (which are tough challenges for many students!). I care deeply about my students’ learning and success, and I will work with you to come up with an individualized plan to approach your classes and assignments that will meet your needs and work for you!
