About Vasantha
I am a disseminator of knowledge who uses a simple yet effective teaching style to keep students engaged and unleash their potential. I facilitate thinking, encourage inquiry, engage minds, support struggle and cultivate their dreams. Why is this crucial? Simple, it will produce confident and independent learners who strive to fulfill their goals. A student who stays curious will seek and attain knowledge, then she uses the knowledge to create and innovate, if she fails she will persevere and eventually succeed. This approach is helpful not only in their academic life but also later in their professional life.

My teaching technique prioritizes developing passion for learning and critical thinking among students. If the student is too weak I will start by building a strong foundation. I explain how advances made by learning Science and Maths are improving our everyday life to cultivate passion for the subjects. I draw examples from my past experience as a microbiologist as well. For subjects such as Maths, lessons consist of practices where questions are set at different difficulty levels. Rather than immediately helping students at the first sign of trouble, I allow them to work through struggles independently before I offer assistance by asking facilitating questions. That may sound counterintuitive, since many of us assume that helping students learn means protecting them from negative feelings of frustration. But for students to become independent learners, they must learn to persist in the face of challenge. This allows them to enhance their critical thinking skills as well. For science subjects that involve remembering lots of facts, I will make attention-grabbing colorful PowerPoint notes that highlight the main points. These notes are short yet comprehensive. This is used during lessons for detailed explanation where I simplify difficult themes so that it is easier to understand and remember. I also practice interactive learning by asking questions and taking questions at frequent intervals to ensure students stay focused and learning is effective.
