About Jean-Baptiste
I studied neuroscience and Japanese in college, and went on to get my Masters in Teaching, as well as my Professional Educator License in Illinois. I just finished teaching middle school science for two years, and am currently enrolled in an MFA in creative writing. I am also fluent in French. My interests in language, storytelling, and science all inform the ways in which I teach – with a mix of fun, curiosity, and learning based on the real world.

Lessons are geared towards middle and high school students, and will be structured to meet individual needs. Lessons will start with warmups designed to identify prior knowledge and misconceptions, and will follow with targeted practice to delve into why and how things work using real world examples. With my experience in neuroscience and biotech research, classroom experience teaching middle school science, and my study of creative writing, I draw from a breadth and depth of scientific knowledge and different ways of thinking. Curiosity and creativity guides my learning and my teaching, and will play an important role in our lessons.
