About Zoe

I am a passionate linguist and language revivalist who enjoys teaching engaged and enthusiastic students at all stages of education and skill levels. Language is my life, and I hope that I can build in you a confidence to tackle its intricacies and uncover its secrets. With my help, you should not only be able to conquer your linguistics studies, but better able to learn languages, with an understanding of the rules that underpin the diverse forms of speech and writing that we see and use every day. I will also help you to master academic writing, especially persuasive argumentation in the social sciences, that you can take with you across your academic career.

About the lesson

I am a former Project Linguist with the University of Adelaide, and a graduate from a Bachelor of Media (2016) and BA (Advanced) maj. Linguistics, min. Indigenous Studies (2024) with a GPA of 6.381 (maximum in Australia is 7). From 2022 to 2023, I worked with the University's Mobile Language Team for 18mo developing language learning materials for Australian languages such as Adnyamathanha and Yankunytjatjara. I have experience with freelance, in-person tutoring and seek to strike a balance between student-directed learning and teaching directly to course material. My aim is to help you build a deep understanding of fundamental linguistics principles, creating a roadmap to ensure you are prepared for more advanced concepts later in your learning. My own research focuses on phonology, morphology and sociolinguistics, including national-scale language planning policy and community-level language revitalization, particularly with regards to Gaelic language in Scotland.
