Teacher of Business English, with general English classes (2 a semester) for M.Chombueng Rajabhat University 8 years continuously just withdrew, end of Contract.
The Taiwan experience was an interesting one, teaching JH School with an Aide who is Taiwan. I had many tasks, but chiefly to get them to speak and deal with forty or fifty speech styles and dialogues. They are Taiwan Chinese speakers and it is an encounter.
Five of my B English Students from my first class are in major university support Staff roles, and the majority are interns with a chance of entering franchise business.

Showing too much is self defeating, in methodology.
Engage.
Motivate.
Break.
Practical assessment.
Set tasks based on appropriate vocab.
Teach them usage of speech styles.
I give a pre organizer as much as possible. Full English speakers need an example, story, good question
EFL need words, graphic, Reader Theatre. They need the vocab words, quickly teaching them usage. Even 10 is enough, 50 too much.
You break because nobody appreciates a task master. You give a warm up, anything to engage.
Teach principles, go back to fix anomalies, don't force essays and texts when they can't speak yet.
Teach them speech set plays, intonation and word stress. Teach them and remind EFL of word stress, different stress in a phrase, ONE WORD STRESSED IN EACH UTTERANCE.
