My teaching method is to encourage the student to understand the techniques involved behind question as opposed to rote memorisation. This approach sets them up to tackle new questions.
Lessons are tailored to to target the particular student's weaknesses and complement their strengths.
Sample Lesson structure
I begin a lesson with a brief (5 min) revision of any skills we may build upon in the lesson.
We then discuss the theory for the lesson for 10 minutes after which the pupil does a few guided examples.
The theory is then recapped with any misunderstandings explained. The pupil then attempts questions without help. Once done, we go through these together.
The lesson is ended with a recap of the theory and homework is set.
