• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  I discovered French when I was still in school. Even though I only learned a few simple words at the time, it ignited a deep passion for language learning in me. Later, when I got the chance to study French in 11th grade, I immediately jumped at the opportunity! Since then, French has been a constant in my life.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  Teaching French wasn’t something I planned, it found me. My first real experience with teaching came when I helped someone I knew personally with their French. I had never taught before, but those few hours of tutoring each week just felt ‘right’. Something clicked, and I knew I wanted to do more of it.
  Earning my DELF B2 diploma was the first step toward turning that realisation into a professional reality. Teaching has allowed me to combine my love for languages with the joy of watching my students grow. Hearing a student say they’ve finally understood a tricky concept is what motivates me to keep going.

• How does your work help society?

  Speaking another language isn’t just about knowing how to say the same thing in more than one language. While that’s still pretty cool, learning a new language is more about opening doors to new opportunities, whether it’s achieving higher grades, studying abroad, advancing your career, or simply gaining the confidence to have a conversation with a native speaker of your favourite travel destination.
  Seeing my students go from nervously saying “Bonjour” to confidently conjugating verbs feels like magic. It’s more than teaching a language; it’s about helping people believe in their ability to grow and take on new challenges.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  If I had to choose a role model specifically for my work, it would be my French teachers, both from college and my language classes. They had an incredible way of making the learning process engaging, fun, and well-structured. Watching them bring the language to life through stories, cultural references, and personal anecdotes not only motivated me to learn French, but also showed me just how powerful good teaching can be.
  Building on that wonderful experience, I strive to spark the same curiosity for the language in my own students. I want to make French feel approachable and create an environment where students don’t just learn the language, but truly experience it. It’s about helping them connect with French in a way that’s meaningful, memorable, and uniquely their own.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  I’m an avid reader, and recently I’ve also started making more time to paint after years of putting it off. Both reading and painting give me a sense of calm and quiet that helps me recharge, especially since my profession requires me to be in constant conversation. And whenever I have some extra time, I love working on improving my other foreign languages.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  The story I always come back to is about my very first student. I had never taught anyone before but I was keen on helping her as she was struggling a lot with French. We started working together casually, just a few hours a week. Over time, her confidence grew, her grades improved, and by the end of the year, she topped her class.
  Watching her transformation was a turning point for me. It not only motivated me, but also gave me the confidence to realise that teaching was truly my calling. That experience shaped the direction of my professional life in a way I never expected.
