About Reuben

Hi/Ciao/Salut/Hola!

I am a friendly, outgoing speaker of both French and Italian who has a number of years' experience teaching French, Spanish and Italian as a qualified teacher of Modern Languages. I offer lessons and support to French and Italian A-Level and undergraduate students, as well as with AS Spanish.

My passion for Modern Languages grew from learning French at home as a child, and I have continued to pursue the study of foreign language and culture throughout my education and career. I spent four years studying for my undergraduate Masters in French and Italian at the University of Manchester, having spent time living abroad in both France and Italy, where I developed my fluency in both languages. It was here I cemented my enthusiasm for teaching languages.

I worked as a Language Speaking Assistant in various contexts before completing my PGCE in Secondary Modern Languages. I have since gained extensive experience teaching French, Italian and Spanish, planning and teaching lessons according to the National Curriculum and supporting students towards assessments at KS3, GCSE and A-Level.

I have continued to seek to develop my pedagogy, recently gaining a Distinction in my MA in Language Teaching at Birkbeck, University of London, where I completed a research project investigating the motivations of students studying Modern Languages.

I am driven by my desire to share the thrill and fascination of languages with people as a tutor, and greatly enjoy developing positive, constructive relationships with my students. I like to bring my own experiences and personality into my lessons, and have a genuine enthusiasm for learning and discovering new things which I use to help my students develop as curious language learners. I believe this is particularly important given the interpersonal context of language tutoring classes, where understanding the culture and history of a country, for example, can greatly enliven study.
